Fleury si unì a Corot in Italia nel 1827; erano a Tivoli, soggetto di questa visione, il 23 agosto. Mentre Corot ha costruito la sua reputazione con dipinti eseguiti su una scala sufficiente a distinguersi in una stanza affollata di grandi immagini, Fleury è noto per aver esposto opere che replicavano i suoi schizzi plein-air nel loro grado di finitura e dimensione modesta. Questo esempio è firmato, suggerendo che è stato completato in studio, ma potrebbe ben essere stato dipinto sul motivo.
