Il Firebird è un noto costume design di Bakst, che ha creato per il balletto di Igor Stravinsky dello stesso nome. Questo è stato un balletto innovativo, non solo perché è stato il primo balletto popolare di Stravinsky, ma perché è stato il primo balletto in cui Stravinsky ha collaborato con Sergei Diaghilev, Bakst, e il Ballet Russes. Questa collaborazione porterebbe anche alla produzione di Petrushka e The Rite of Spring, entrambi molto ammirati per i loro costumi e scenografia. Accanto a Leon Bakst, Alexandre Benois è stato anche un designer prominente per il balletto di Stravinsky che produce molti disegni per le produzioni Ballet Russes.
