In “Lady with a Bowl of Violets”, Lilla Cabot Perry ha dimostrato il suo amore di colori impressionisti infusi dalla luce e spazzola bravura. Verniciata dopo il ritorno della famiglia Perry da Tokyo, questa composizione presenta una stampa in legno giapponese e una semplice disposizione floreale dietro la testa della sitter. L'artista ha ritagliato drammaticamente sia la stampa che i fiori in un modo che ricorda l'arte tradizionale giapponese. Tale arte ha anche ispirato il curioso e audace vuoto compositivo del lato sinistro dell'immagine. Perry ha usato i fucili sciolti e pittorici favoriti dagli impressionisti. Con pochi ampi tratti di vernice, ha trasportato la consistenza della pelle della giovane donna e il pesante taglio di pizzo bianco sul suo abito. L'arancione vibrante deriva dalla luce riflessa del focolare.
