Nella sua prima visita in India all'inizio degli anni 1880, il prolifico designer statunitense di interni e mobili Lockwood de Forest ha collaborato con il filantropo Mugganbhai Hutheesing per formare la Ahmedabad Wood Carving Company (AWCC). Prodotte all'AWCC da artigiani locali, queste sedie sono emblematiche del Movimento Estetico della fine del XIX secolo, caratterizzato dall'amore per la bellezza, l'ornamento e la decorazione piuttosto che la funzionalità. Questa sedia ha una schiena dritta ed è imbottita con tessuto riccamente ricamato. In termini di ornamentazione, combina motivi di design indiano, nordafricano e orientale. La schiena è delicatamente cesellata con un motivo a forma di pergamena, e la cresta è formata in una formazione simile al club. Il fregio sporgente la seduta ha anche un motivo floreale scolpito. Le gambe sono di stile cabriole con una struttura a forma di S.
