L'immagine risale a circa 1360–65, quando Luca di Tomme ha collaborato con il miniaturista Niccolò di Ser Sozzo. Questo era il suo periodo più inventivo e l'immagine attuale, il pannello centrale di una pala d'altare non identificata, è una delle sue opere più distinte. Anche se non ci sono perdite importanti, il carattere dell'immagine è stato molto marred da appiattimento a causa del suo trasferimento e pulizia dura.
