Oggi, il probabilmente più famoso studente di ceramica di Michael Powolny e la Vienna School of Arts and Crafts è Lucie Rie (1902-1995) che era studente di Powolny dal 1921 al 1926 e rimase collegato alla scuola fino al suo esilio forzato a Londra nel 1938. Come ceramica è oggi famosa in tutto il mondo per le sue re creazioni modellate dalla tradizione asiatica della ceramica.
