Questo olio su rame, realizzato per il cardinale Benedetto Giustiniani, incarna lo stile maturo di Ludovico: la posa della Madonna evoca i sibilli di Michelangelo nella Cappella Sistina, mentre le eleganti curve risuonano con le figure di Parmigianino. Ludovico ha così reso omaggio ai grandi artisti del secolo precedente. San Bernardo, instancabile diplomatico del papa Innocenzo II del XII secolo, appare in bianco contro un coro di altri santi tra cui Pietro, Andrea, Paolo e Caterina d'Alessandria.
