Le locomotive furono acquistate nel 1889 dal Companhia Nacional (CN) per la linea Dão (da Santa Comba Dão a Viseu), dove circolarono fino al 1947. Questi sono stati standardizzati e sarebbero molto simili all'ordine precedente (CP E80), che ha facilitato la manutenzione e il funzionamento.
