Sono Gysbert Japicx, 34 anni. Era un maestro di scuola, ma, soprattutto, il padre fondatore della letteratura frisiana. Nel suo tempo libero scrisse poesie – nella lingua frisone, che era notevole, perché appena qualcuno scrisse in Frisian in quei giorni. Il suo lavoro Friesche Rymlerye (Frisian Verses), che è stato pubblicato dopo la sua morte, è diventato un grande successo. Japicx scrisse la sua poesia alle melodie esistenti, in modo che potesse essere cantata ed era facile da ricordare. Il suo lavoro è ancora regolarmente eseguito. A volte viene indicato come Shakespeare Frisiano, anche se da un punto di vista quantitativo la sua oeuvre non arriva da nessuna parte vicino alla produzione di questo poeta.
