Nel 1890, Maxime Maufra lasciò una carriera di business per dipingere sotto la guida di artisti paesaggistici Nantes Leroux e Leduc. Nello stesso anno, mentre viaggiava con il suo amico Dezaunay (1854-1938), incontrò Gauguin a Pont-Aven. Nel 1892 prese alloggio a Montmartre non lontano dallo studio di Eugene Delatre (1864-1938), che lo introdusse all'incisione. Basato su un disegno di Maufra realizzato nel 1892, questa stampa raffigura la costa rocciosa di Porgastel a Le Pouldu che viene colpita da un mare tempestoso, con un'onda particolarmente grande che si avvicina dalla sinistra.
