Mierevelt fu uno dei ritrattisti più ricercati dell'Aia, anche se nacque e morì a Delft, e tenne un grande laboratorio per soddisfare tutti i suoi clienti. Molti dei suoi ritratti tradiscono anche la mano di un allievo. Questo, tuttavia, è uno dei più potenti e commoventi di tutti i ritratti di Mierevelts di uomini vecchi e deve essere interamente il suo lavoro. Uno dei suoi studenti più noti è Anthonie Palamedesz rappresentato anche nella Collezione Hallwyl. Il dipinto è firmato a sinistra: M Mierevelt Aetatis 80 Ao1624.
