Nel 1883 William Morris imbarchiò il suo progetto più ambizioso nel design tessile; una serie di modelli fluidi ispirati agli affluenti del Tamigi. Il modello “Evenlode” fa parte di questa serie che comprendeva anche “Cray”, “Kennet”, “Wey”, “Wandle”, “Windrush” e “Medway”. Questi disegni sono molto più complessi che i suoi tessuti stampati precedenti e spesso includono diversi strati di grandi e piccoli fiori e gambi. Morris ha avuto un grande affetto per il fiume Tamigi e ha goduto di molte gite in barca sui suoi numerosi affluenti. Disegnò su questi frequentemente nella sua poesia come nei versi introduttivi del
