La caratteristica qualità decorativa della pittura di Chikutō è ampiamente evidente qui nella disposizione ritmica degli aironi, audacemente incorniciata dal loro persico nevoso. I contrasti in bianco e nero e i modelli ripetitivi di lavaggi orizzontali che definiscono le forme bianche degli uccelli e dei rami contribuiscono ulteriormente ad un effetto di eleganza grafica. Chikutō, nato figlio di un medico a Nagoya, si trasferì nel 1815 a Kyoto, dove si unì al cerchio dell'artista nanga Rai Sanyō (1780-1832).
