Van Veerendael è stato influenzato da due dei principali pittori di fiori ad Anversa, Jan Davidsz de Heem e Daniel Seghers. In questo primo lavoro l'evidenza dell'osservazione acuta sembra un'eredità delle origini olandesi di De Heem, ma il disegno generale e la dimora sui dettagli botanici continuano la tradizione fiamminga del maestro di Segher, Jan Brueghel il Vecchio.
