Dopo Klee’s visita in tunisia , dove è stato ispirato dalla qualità della luce , tornò a casa con la determinazione di essere un pittore , che era qualcosa che in precedenza non era in grado di definirsi . Questo lo ha portato a creare questo dipinto , una composizione di semplici forme colorate , ed è stato il primo dipinto puramente astratto creato da paul klee . Questa composizione è un'illustrazione di Klee’s capacità di usare intonazioni di colore per evocare un sentimento musicale . Inizia la composizione con il grande rettangolo al centro , poi si basa su it’s forza e colore per costruire il resto della composizione , che scorre dalla prima nota grande .
