Paul Signac (1863-1935) è un pittore che era un avido marinaio. Ha creato diversi dipinti marini, tra cui una serie di viste sul porto di Saint-Tropez, dove si stabilì nel 1892. Su questo dipinto verticale, l'occhio si fissa inizialmente sul vibrante boa rosso-arancio, che contrasta con il blu profondo dell'acqua. I riflessi degli edifici portano poi lo spettatore
