Il lavaggio sul ghiaccio fa parte di una serie di dodici dipinti che sono stati realizzati per il Padiglione Finlandese alla Fiera Mondiale di Parigi nel 1900. Lo scopo della serie era quello di mostrare come i finlandesi hanno fatto una vita e come gli ambienti finlandesi sembravano. La luce invernale in questo dipinto manca quasi ogni ombra. Una donna, vestita di grigio, l'ha portata a lavarsi sul ghiaccio, e gli agriturismi possono essere visti nidificare tra gli alberi sullo sfondo. Halonen
