Nel 1939, Philips introdusse il rasoio elettrico: il tipo di Philishave SC 7733. Questo disegno dell'ingegnere Alexandre Horowitz è stato soprannominato 'il sigaro'. Il dispositivo è costituito da un supporto asta Bakelite con un motore elettrico autocontenuto da 5 watt a cui è montato la testa di rasatura. Questa testa di rasatura molto sottile, misura appena 0,09 millimetri, è in acciaio temperato e ha slot per guidare i capelli del viso. All'interno della testa di rasatura una lama di rasatura a tre bracci azionata elettricamente ruota per tagliare i capelli del viso.
