La pittura di Bonnard della routine quotidiana di fare il bagno, fatta dalla memoria, cattura i dettagli della luce riflessa in uno specchio e ciabatte rosse appuntite. La donna è probabilmente Marthe (Maria Boursin; 1869–1942), che Bonnard incontrò nel 1893 e sposò nel 1925.
