Charles Lenormant, archeologo e storico francese, si è appassionatamente interessato all'archeologia mentre in Italia si prepara per una carriera in diritto. Tornato in Francia, fu nominato ispettore delle belle arti nel 1825. Lenormant andò in Egitto con Champollion nel 1828 e in Grecia come parte della spedizione della commissione Morée. Alla caduta di Carlo X, tenne numerose posizioni ufficiali, anche se fu costretto a dimettersi nel 1846 per le sue convinzioni politiche. Scrisse un certo numero di libri sull'archeologia e la storia.
