Il pittore e scrittore Prudenci Bertrana è stato addestrato all'Escola Llotja di Barcellona. Nel 1892 prese parte ad una mostra a Sant Feliu de Guíxols, dove entrò in contatto con la Scuola Olot e Santiago Rusiñol, che furono i pionieri di una ristrutturazione in stile pittorico. Qualche anno dopo si sarebbe rivolto alla letteratura piuttosto che alla pittura, ma non ha mai abbandonato le sue pennelli. In questo dipinto Bertrana raffigura le case lungo il fiume di Girona di notte. Nel suo romanzo El vagabund, il personaggio principale contempla la città di notte con la fila pittoresca di vecchie case motley gettando la loro riflessione confusa sulle acque calme pesanti del fiume’.
