La Vergine e San Giovanni Evangelista piangono, e Santa Maria Maddalena stringe il piede della croce, le altre due Marie le stanno dietro. Giuseppe di Arimathaea e Nicodemo appaiono sullo sfondo a sinistra con una scala per abbattere il corpo di Cristo, mentre sui soldati giusti ritornano a Gerusalemme. Massys fu l'artista leader ad Anversa nei primi anni 1500. Questo fu probabilmente dipinto in circa 1515. Questa foto è stata presentata dalla Regina Vittoria al Prince Consort
