Süleyman Seyyid Bey era un artista il cui lavoro nel campo dell'educazione artistica ha dato un contributo significativo al movimento di occidentalizzazione che ha seguito le Riforma del 1839. Durante gli studi all'Accademia Militare prese lezioni da due noti artisti, Pierre Gués e Giuseppe Schranz, che insegnarono all'accademia. I suoi disegni, acquerelli e pitture petrolifere gli vinsero il riconoscimento, e nel 1862, durante il regno del sultano Abdülaziz, fu mandato a Parigi per un'ulteriore educazione. Là Süleyman Seyyyid Bey frequentò la scuola ottomana e divenne studente di due importanti pittori francesi del tempo, Alexandre Cabanel e Gustave Boulanger.
