Le gomme di bambù, piegandosi sotto il peso di neve cadute sulle loro foglie snelle, emergono da dietro un masso in muschio. Sakaki Hyakusen ha lasciato le aree della carta non verniciate per rappresentare la neve, mentre un lavaggio grigio irregolare segnala una sera buio, wintry. Uno studente assiduo di pittura cinese, Hyakusen è ora considerato un pioniere di nanga, o "pittura scolastica meridionale," in Giappone, e la sua influenza su artisti nanga successivi come Yosa Buson (1716-1784) è ampiamente riconosciuto.
