L'artista inglese Guy si stabilì a New York nel 1854. In questa vivace scena domestica, commissionata dal finanziere Robert Gordon, tre bambini si contendono un piccolo corsage mentre un quarto cerca conforto nel giro di sua madre. Un trustee fondatore di The Met, Gordon raccolse dipinti americani, compresi i paesaggi contemporanei, che ha mostrato nella sala da pranzo della sua casa a 7 West 33rd Street, raffigurato qui. Gli arredi sono conformi allo stile rinascimentale alla moda. Il sideboard elaborato intagliato assomiglia ad un esempio di Alexander Roux in mostra in questa galleria.
