Julia Floyd (1795–1859) sposò nel 1820 lo statista britannico Sir Robert Peel, che due volte servì come primo ministro ed era un avido patrono di Lawrence. Il ritratto di Frick apparentemente è stato ispirato dalla pittura di Rubens di Susanna Fourment conosciuto come il Chapeau de paille, che Peel aveva acquisito nel 1823. Quando Lady Peel di Lawrence fu esposta per la prima volta alla Royal Academy nel 1827, un critico sostenne che fosse tra i “più alti successi dell’arte moderna”.
