Susan B. Anthony ha curato Carrie Chapman Catt per guidare il movimento di suffragio. Catt fu un brillante organizzatore che, dopo aver partecipato al suo primo incontro nel 1890, divenne presto indispensabile per la National American Woman Suffrage Association. Dal 1868 in poi, i suffragisti condotti, nella stima di Catt, “56 campagne di referendum per gli elettori maschi; 480 campagne per sollecitare le legislature a presentare emendamenti di suffragio agli elettori; 47 campagne per indurre le convenzioni costituzionali statali a scrivere il suffragio femminile in costituzioni statali; 277 campagne per persuadere le convenzioni del partito di Stato a includere i piani di suffragio femminile; 30 Dopo 909 campagne condotte da tre generazioni di donne, Catt ha guidato l'ultima carica. Ha organizzato campagne per ottenere le necessarie approvazioni da trentasei stati, tra cui quello finale in Tennessee.
