Una delle numerose versioni di questo tema dipinto da Tiziano e la sua bottega nel 1550, questo Mater Dolorosa con le mani smerigliate è particolarmente impressionante a causa del delicato schema cromatico del mantello blu, del capo rosa e del velo giallo zafferano. Gli inventari ci dicono che Carlo V prese anche una Madonna sul legno, insieme all'Ecce Homo, con lui al monastero di Yuste. Alcuni autori ritengono che questo sia il lavoro in questione.
