c'è un'eleganza inimitabile nel modo in cui tiziano collega le varie sfumature di grigio del capo a quelle sullo sfondo . Seta grigia , la pelliccia e una camicia di pizzo diventano sensazioni tattili . un'iscrizione che si trovava sul retro del ritratto identificava la figura come tomaso mosti . Alcuni autori , però , penso sia più probabile che questo sia suo fratello vincenzo . il motivo è che tomaso era un prete , mentre vincenzo , in contrasto , era uno dei preferiti di alfonso d'Este alla corte di ferrara .
