La tela, tagliata a destra, è una delle tante varianti del soggetto molto popolare dipinto nel laboratorio di Tiziano. Venere con uno Specchio aveva ottenuto un notevole successo così dozzine di copie sono state fatte. Nessuna delle varianti, ora custodite in molti musei e collezioni, può essere indubbiamente attribuita a Tiziano, anche se gli studi tendono ad identificare il 'originale' esposto alla National Gallery di Washington. Il dipinto della collezione Franchetti, per una certa morbidezza di costruttività, tipica per l'artista, e impalpabile rappresentazione leggera della tenda, è attribuibile con grande certezza al maestro stesso.
