Tra le ultime opere di Tiziano, prodotte nel 1575-76, due furono commissioni ufficiali: una per il Palazzo Ducale, raffigurante Doge Antonio Grimani Kneling Before the Faith, e la seconda per Filippo II, raffigurante la Spagna Succouring Religion. Quest'ultimo commemora la partecipazione della flotta spagnola nella battaglia di Lepanto.
