Nel luglio 1883, la prima compagnia ferroviaria privata in Giappone, Japan Railways, aprì i servizi ferroviari da Ueno (Tokyo) a Kumagaya (nord Saitama Prefecture). L'anno successivo, la linea fu estesa a Takasaki (prefettura sudoccidentale di Gunma). Questo nishiki-e, una stampa multicolore a blocchi di legno, raffigura i viaggiatori paesaggi possono guardare dalle finestre del treno, come i fiori di ciliegio e il fiume Arakawa, mentre viaggiavano attraverso Tokyo e Saitama a Takasaki. Le montagne visibili nella foto includono Mt. Fuji, Mt. Chichibu, Mt. Myōgi, Mt. Haruma e Mt. Akagi. C'è un orario del treno e le tariffe stampate a destra. L'artista, registrato sulla stampa come Gondō Kunimasa, è più comunemente conosciuto come Utagawa Kunimasa V.
