Il giovane San Giovanni Battista è indicato come "la voce di uno che piange nel deserto, prepara la via del Signore" (Marco 1:3). La stessa giovinezza riappare come Daniel nell'Innocenza di Susanna, in vista nella prossima galleria. Come riportato nell'iscrizione, questa immagine fu data alla Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista nel 1733 e fu appese fuori durante la festa del santo, che spiega la sua condizione compromessa. Valentin qui reinterpreta una celebre opera di Caravaggio con la posa attiva e la voce quasi udibile del santo.
