Questo è uno di un gruppo di dipinti lievemente satirici di Sadler che mostra la vita domestica di monaci e frati che risalgono a circa 1865-90. Sadler raffigura frati domenicani che intrattengono due francescani a un pasto. Venerdì nella vita religiosa è tradizionalmente un giorno di digiuno, o almeno il giorno in cui non si mangia carne. I frati di Sadler stanno osservando la lettera della legge, ma non il suo spirito, fissandosi a una festa di pesce. Sadler ha detto di ‘Friday’: “Non posso ricordare alcun motivo per cui ho cercato di dipingere monaci, ma ricordo che non avevo mai avuto un monaco reale come modello.
