Nell'autunno del 1906, Sickert dipinse un certo numero di modelli che gli posero nella sua camera d'albergo di Parigi, ricordando poi che "l'alcova dei letti in alcune delle stanze sono splendidamente accesi". Un gruppo di queste immagini, che ricordano le viste chiave di Degas e Bonnard che Sickert conosceva, sono state incluse in una mostra tenutasi a Galerie Bernheim-Jeune a Parigi all'inizio del 1907. Nel catalogo di accompagnamento, questo lavoro è stato chiamato La Maigre Adeline (Thin Adeline).
