Dopo la secessione si stabilirono a Monaco, Vienna e Düsseldorf, nel 1898 fu fondata la Secessione di Berlino. Il pittore Walter Leistikow ha svolto un ruolo importante in questa materia. Come eccellente networker, sapeva come riunire colleghi artisti per formare una nuova istituzione che ha organizzato le proprie mostre. Ogni tendenza artistica doveva avere il suo posto e solo la qualità del dipinto era essenziale. Un nuovo edificio espositivo è stato eretto a malapena due mesi nel quartiere di Charlottenburg. La Secessione di Berlino mostrava anche pittori impressionisti francesi. Presto, le mostre divennero i più importanti eventi artistici della capitale.
