Wang Duo si rivolse negli effetti accidentali della saturazione, in particolare sul raso, dove l'inchiostro assorbiva nella tessitura in modi strani e avvincenti. Nel corso di questo lungo handscroll, nei punti in cui Wang si fermò per ricaricare il pennello, l'inchiostro sanguina e le piscine, in alcuni casi quasi oscurando il personaggio che ha scritto. Confronta questo con l'applicazione supremamente controllata di inchiostro di Dong Qichang. Questi due uomini rappresentano le estremità opposte dello spettro estetico della calligrafia seicentesca, dall'eccentricità ruvida di Wang Duo all'elegante controllo di Dong Qichang.
