Una storia interessante che indica l'esame intellettuale di Kandinsky nella creazione delle sue opere ruota intorno a questa composizione. Divenne esausta durante i mesi di studio è andato attraverso in preparazione per questo dipinto, e ha deciso di andare per una passeggiata. Il suo assistente all'epoca, Gabrielle Munter, che stava sistemando lo studio in assenza dell'artista, inavvertitamente girava la tela dalla sua parte. Al ritorno di Kandinsky, vide la tela, cadde in ginocchio e cominciò a piangere alla bellezza del dipinto. La sua nuova prospettiva trovata sul pezzo cambierebbe la sua visione artistica e la sua direzione per il resto della sua vita.
