L'influenza del design giapponese fiorisce in America dopo la visualizzazione di oggetti giapponesi all'Esposizione Centenale di Filadelfia del 1876. Questo servizio di caffè e tè è un buon esempio dell'argento anglo-giapponese prodotto negli anni 1880 e 1890 dal produttore americano Whiting Manufacturing Co. Il fascino del set viene in parte dal sorprendente uso di elementi naturalistici americani — foglie di oak, bacche, coni di pino e fiori di mais in appliqué di metallo misto — piuttosto che gli elementi giapponesi più tipicamente presenti in argento anglo-giapponese.
