Nelle terre germaniche del Settecento, e nelle Fiandre del XVII, il pulpito era diventato un veicolo iconografico per esprimere la verità della Fede in figure il cui stile era preso in prestito dall'eloquenza del predicatore. Infatti, il pulpito à ̈ stato chiamato 'chaire de vérité'. In Francia il sermone fu coltivato come genere letterario.
