Famoso come pittore di navi a vela, paesaggi marini e scene artiche, Bradford viaggiò ampiamente come artista. Tra il 1877 e il 1881, visitò la Yosemite Valley almeno sei volte per fare studi per le viste di wintry e la zona di montagna della Sierra Nevada in California. Questo dipinto mostra una vista dal bordo occidentale della valle verso la famosa forma di granito, parzialmente oscurata da nuvole. A sinistra si trova El Capitan, il più grande monolite di granito del mondo. Nel centro di destra sono Cathedral Rocks e una caduta di Bridalveil congelato.
