Questa è una delle tante nature morte di pesce prodotto da Chase dopo la ricezione molto favorevole del suo dipinto del 1904 intitolato "Un inglese Cod" (National Gallery of Art, Corcoran Collection, Washington, D.C.). "Fish" viene eseguito con la spazzola bravura che riflette la sua formazione a Monaco e richiama anche la vita spagnola del XVII secolo, in cui oggetti dipinti fluidamente vengono presentati su uno sfondo scuro. La disposizione qui dispone di un basso a strisce e un salmone. Un pesce debole si trova direttamente sul tavolo e una ciotola è visibile sullo sfondo.
