Chase dipinse Seaside Flowers a Shinnecock, Long Island, dove insegnò arte durante l'estate dal 1892 al 1902. Chase ha incoraggiato i suoi studenti a trovare la bellezza in paesaggi che a prima vista sembrano inaccettabili, che ha fatto qui.
