Tennessee Celeste Claflin, sorella della famosa Victoria Woodhull, era un narratore di fortuna, “table-rapper,” Stockbroker, giornalista e guaritore. Ha sostenuto per la piattaforma Free Love: il diritto di sposarsi, divorziare e portare i bambini senza interferenze governative. Come una ragazza, “Tennie” praticato clairvoyance nel suo show di medicina della famiglia. Nel 1868 divenne guaritrice magnetica del milionario di New York Cornelius Vanderbilt (1794-1877). Con il supporto di Vanderbilt, Tennie e Victoria fondarono la prima società di intermediazione femminile Wall Street. L'anziano Vanderbilt ha promesso di sposare Tennie. Quando morì nel 1877, il Tennessee accettò un ordinato $100,000 dalla famiglia Vanderbilt per aver promesso che non avrebbe contestato la sua volontà.
