Maria Sutherland (circa 1782-1850) era la figlia di Margaret e Daniel Sutherland. I Sutherlands erano amici di Berczy che avevano praticato la sua arte in tutta Europa. Maria indossa un vestito da Impero, un segno distintivo del neoclassicismo. La differenza tra il suo vestito e quello indossato da sua madre, Margaret, nel suo ritratto del 1792, rivela il notevole cambiamento nella moda in poco più di un decennio. Maria alla fine avrebbe sposato James Hallowell (1778-1816) che, come suo padre, era pesantemente investito nel commercio di pellicce.
