Nel luglio 1943, Xu Beihong guidò alcuni dei membri dell'Accademia d'Arte della Cina in un viaggio alla montagna di Qingcheng della contea di Guan per trascorrere l'estate e la vernice. Viaggiò con Li Ruinian, Fei Chengwu, Zhang Qianying, Sun Zongwei, Yu Feng e Liao Jingwen.
