Il pittore è catturato nell'atto di scattare una fotografia, un'attività che prese per la prima volta nel 1919 per integrare il suo reddito. "Ho comprato una normale camera da letto e ho praticato scattare foto usando le mie tele come modelli.... tra pittura ho ricevuto commissioni da amici e gallerie per fotografare scultura e dipinti." Più tardi, negli anni trenta, produsse anche fotografie che erano opere d'arte indipendenti.
