Questo minuscolo album è stato realizzato per l'inclusione in una "scatola di trattamento", uno degli elaborati contenitori di oggetti preziosi che erano preferiti dell'imperatore Qianlong (r. 1736–95) della dinastia Qing (1644-1911). Gli album erano particolarmente adatti a soddisfare l'amore di Qianlong di miniature, ma i pittori di corte come Zhang Zongcang erano anche tenuti a produrre piccoli scatti per scatole di tesori.
