Poeta, calligrafo e bon vivant, Zhu Yunming era una delle figure letterarie più importanti e colorate del periodo Ming. Tranne per una breve carriera ufficiale come magistrato nella provincia del Guangdong dal 1515 al 1520 circa, Zhu passò la maggior parte della sua vita nella zona di Suzhou godendo di passatempi studiosi in compagnia di amici come Wen Zhengming (1470–1559) e Tang Yin (1470–1523). Un calligrafo non inibito, altamente creativo, Zhu è meglio conosciuto per il suo "selvaggio" copione cursivo ispirato dai maestri della dinastia Tang Zhang Xu (ca. 700–750) e Huaisu (ca. 735–800?) e dal cantico-poet Huang Tingjian (1045–1105). Prose Poem sulla pesca, lunga quasi ventisette piedi, è un tour de force di energia creativa sostenuta. Scritto su carta grossolana "da lucernario" con un "pennello argentato", le pennellate arrotondate e spesse hanno una forza sfocata che distingue questo scritto da Zhu"s di solito più accuratamente eseguiti e aggraziati caratteri modulati.
