竹は、主に京都に拠点を構え、多くの場合、Confucianの研究と中国文学論のバックグラウンドを持っていた、ナンガのアーティストの好意的なテーマでした。 南海は和歌山県の医師・藩主の息子でした。 江戸の文学と伝道主義(現日東京)を学んだが、初代インフルエンサー・ナンガ画家に所属。 初期の日付絵画(1719)は竹で、同じ被験者に関する研究を数多く手がけました。 この描写では、アーティストは正確に葉をブラッシングし、さまざまなトーンで茎を接合して雨に浸した雰囲気を呼び起こし、近くの苔の岩に点心したインクを打ちます。 日本で初めての18世紀マスタードシード・ガーデンマニュアルなど、木材カットイラストの中国絵画マニュアルに筆記を反映。 中国の伝統では、竹の強さと柔軟性は、曲がる紳士の精神に似ていますが、逆境下では壊れません。
